The University of Notre Dame is ranked No. 1 on a list compiled by Bloomberg of undergraduate colleges attended by chief executive officers of the 100 largest U.S. financial firms.

Notre Dame educated five of the top 100 CEOs, including James Rohr of PNC Financial Services Group and Debra Cafaro of Ventas Inc., one of only two women in the ranking. Other CEOs include James Flaherty, HCP; Paul Reilly, Raymond James Financial; and Terrence Cavanaugh, Erie Indemnity.

“Notre Dame teaches performance, community, respect, integrity, diversity, teamwork and balance," said Rohr of PNC. “Those values make organizations like PNC successful in the long run.”

“These CEOs will touch many, many lives, and it’s humbling to be part of their stories,” said Carolyn Y. Woo, Martin J. Gillen Dean of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business. “Survey results such as these are good reminders of our responsibility as an institution of faith to prepare students for business leadership that contributes social as well as economic value. The foundation for both academic excellence and care for others bears fruit in its own time. For us in education, this is a reminder of our responsibility.”

Ranked below Notre Dame on the survey were Harvard College, the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell University and Colgate University, all of which tied for second place with four Top 100 CEOs. Princeton University, the University of California and the University of Wisconsin each placed third with three CEOs.

Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business also holds the top spot on Bloomberg BusinessWeek’s spring ranking of “The Best Undergraduate Business Schools”, earning the No. 1 spot in the student ranking, as well as “A+” in teaching quality, facilities and services, and job placement. The school placed first in the recruiter ranking across a three-year average.
