Emerson Spartz raises $25 million from Tribune Media

Emerson Spartz is enlisting Tribune Media, for both its money and its expertise, in his quest to turn Dose.com into one of the players in digital media.

Tribune Media, the TV broadcast company that was formed when Tribune spun off its print business, is the lead investor in a $25 million round for Dose Media. Tayori, an investment fund affiliated with John Stafford, CEO of Chicago-based Ronin Capital, also participated.

Spartz, who gained notice and notoriety as something of a savant at using Facebook to make stories go viral on the web, started building new technology a couple of years ago, creating algorithms to crank up visitors to his sites.
