Jia (Jasmine) Hu

BiographyJia (Jasmine) Hu received her Ph.D. with concentrations in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management from University of Illinois at Chicago. Jasmine’s primary research interests focus on understanding 1) work teams, particularly with respect to the state of collective motivation, the role of leadership in teams, the process of social comparison, and the issues of team personality composition and team climate; 2) leadership, especially the nature of leader-team interactions, and the characteristics and styles contributing to leadership effectiveness; and 3) pro-social behaviors, especially the questions of how pro-social motivation and behaviors impact employee, team, and organizational outcomes. Her work has appeared in the field’s top journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and Personnel Psychology and has been mentioned in media outlets, such as New York Times, Washington Post, Fortune, ABC News, CNBC, MSN, CNS News, Huffington Post, and Yahoo! Finance. In addition to research, her teaching experience includes courses of Introduction to Management, Organizational Behavior, and Management Competencies at the undergraduate level and Leadership at the MBA level. In terms of consulting and applied experiences, Jasmine served as a consultant for Accenture and McKinsey & Company and conducted field research in companies across a variety of industries in both U.S. and China. In her personal life, Jasmine is married to her college sweetheart Kaifeng and they have two adorable sons. Another interesting part of Jasmine is that she is an award-winning table tennis player who had been professionally trained for six years and had won over 20 city- and state-level championships in both U.S. and China since age six.
