The BRITE Women Project (Board Readiness Initiative to Empower Women Project) seeks to equip women to provide transformational nonprofit board leadership that benefits their communities.
Our priorities include:
- Offering training and networking opportunities for aspiring, first-time and veteran nonprofit board directors.
- Connecting nonprofits with women who want to serve.
- Preparing men to be allies in increasing female representation on nonprofit boards.

Registration is open for this free virtual session on crisis communication led by Amanda McKendree, director of Mendoza’s Fanning Center for Business Communication. Amanda also teaches business communication courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.
This virtual session will focus on:
- Differentiating among crisis leadership, crisis management, and crisis communication.
- practice crisis response strategies that engage crucial stakeholders
- negotiating crisis response plans in a team setting
- identifying best practices for building trust with reporters and proactively framing your narrative

This BRITE Women Project event will feature a virtual panel discussion with Kristen Collett-Schmitt, associate dean for specialized master’s at Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business; Stacy Walton Long, partner at Krieg DeVault; and Peggy Hardek, partner, PwC’s Risk & Regulatory Services. They will discuss:
- Their board leadership and experience journey
- How to position yourself for a seat at the table
- Leveraging your competencies and values to impact your community

Four exceptional women executives who are thriving in their roles in the nonprofit sector will discuss:

- Positioning yourself for a seat at the table
- Finding and using your voice for greater impact
Bethany Hartley, Director of Diversity and Inclusion, The South Bend – Elkhart Regional Partnership will moderate the discussion. Panelists include Amy Cooper Collier, Executive Director, Girls on the Run, Inc.; Laura Jensen, President, and CEO, United Way of Saint Joseph County; Stephanie Steele, President, Saint Joseph County Bar Association and Chief Legal Counsel for the City of South Bend; and Liliana Quintero, Executive Director of the Northern Indiana Hispanic Health Coalition.
