João Granja, The University of Chicago Booth School of Business

João Granja, an Associate Professor of Accounting at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, will present his research as part of the Eugene B. Clark Research Seminar Series. The primary focus of his research is in investigating the role that disclosure mandates and their enforcement play in preserving financial stability in the banking industry. His papers have been accepted in prestigious academic journals such as the Journal of Accounting Research, Review of Financial Studies, and the Journal of Finance and his research has been covered in major mainstream newspapers such as the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg News.

Granja earned an undergraduate degree in economics from the Universidade do Porto (Portugal). In 2008, he completed a Master’s thesis in economics from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Lisbon). Prior to joining academia, he has consulted on several projects that involved the use of financial statements to evaluate the efficiency of regulated industries in Portugal. He completed a PhD in accounting from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2013. Before joining Booth in 2016, João Granja worked as an assistant professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan School of Business.
