Jimmy John Liautaud, founder of the Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches franchise, will describe how he rose to success from a modest start in a converted garage when he was just 19 years old during a talk at the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business

Liautaud will present “My Story, Jimmy John Liautaud: Founder of Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches” from 5 to 6:15 p.m. Tuesday in the college’s Jordan Auditorium. His talk is part of the Entrepreneurial Insights Lecture Series.

The event is free and open to the public, but does require a ticket , which can be reserved by contacting Patti Reinhardt at Patti.J.Reinhardt@nd.edu or 574-631-3042.

Liautaud opened Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches on Jan. 13, 1983, in Charleston, Ill., with $25,000 from his father for startup capital. He learned about food vending by scouting hot dog stands and other eateries in Chicago, eventually creating his business plan to sell sandwiches made of premium meats and a bread recipe he baked himself. He franchised the sandwich chain in 1994, and today has more than 1,400 corporate and franchised locations in 42 states.
