Mendoza College dean speaking at UN Global Forum

Two administrators from the Mendoza College of Business at
the University of Notre Dame are participating in the United Nations’ Third Annual Global Forum for Responsible Management Education, held June 14-15 in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil.

Roger Huang, interim dean and Kenneth R. Meyer Professor of
Global Investment Management, is serving as a speaker during the conference,
which features a slate of renowned business school leaders, institute
executives and industry experts. The agenda includes Georg Kell, executive director
of the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest voluntary corporate
responsibility initiative; Nancy McGaw, deputy director of the Aspen Institute Business and Society Program; and Mitch
Leventhal, vice chancellor of Global Affairs at the State University of New
York (SUNY).

The Rev. Oliver Williams, C.S.C, director of the Center for
Ethics and Religious Values and associate management professor at the Mendoza
College, serves as a member of the board of directors of the UN Global Compact
Foundation. Williams will chair a session on “Building a New Ecosystem for
a Sustainable Economy,” among other responsibilities.

The annual Global Forum event is intended to provide
business school leaders and others addressing issues of corporate social
responsibility the opportunity to discuss current issues and initiatives. More
than 400 deans from schools worldwide are expected to attend. The forum is part
of Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME), a UN Global Compact initiative
launched in 2007 aimed at shifting the vision of business school education.
PRME lays out six principles that altogether call for a re-definition of
business enterprise as a force for good in society, a broader and more
inclusive vision than the historical focus on wealth-creation.

The Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre
Dame was among the first of the now-451 international business schools to sign
the initiative. 

The Third Global Forum for
Responsible Management Education serves as the platform for two additional
meetings – the Global Compact Rio+20 Corporate Sustainability Forum and the UN Conference on Sustainable Development – Rio+20. The “+20” refers to the 20th anniversary of the
first Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
