Mendoza College of Business Maintains Prestigious AACSB Accreditation

Published: April 1, 2014 / Author: Carol Elliott

The Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame has maintained its business accreditation by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.

AACSB Accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education, and has been earned by less than 5 percent of the world’s business programs. Today, there are 694 business schools in 45 countries and territories that maintain AACSB Accreditation. Similarly, 182 institutions maintain an additional specialized AACSB Accreditation for their accounting programs. The Mendoza College first received AACSB accreditation in 1962; the College’s accountancy program, which also maintained accreditation, has been accredited since 1984.

“It takes a great deal of commitment and determination to earn and maintain AACSB Accreditation,” said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. “Business schools must not only meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty and professional staff must make a commitment to ongoing continuous improvement to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver the highest quality of education to students.”

“For a business school, AACSB Accreditation is an important signifier that we are delivering an educational experience that meets the highest standards,” said Roger D. Huang, Martin J. Gillen Dean of the Mendoza College of Business. “We view our renewed accreditation as not just good news, but a continuing challenge to provide the kind of coursework, teaching and values-centered thought leadership that Notre Dame is known for.”

The Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame is a premier Catholic business school that fosters academic excellence, professional effectiveness and personal accountability in a context that strives to be faithful to the ideals of community, human development and individual integrity.
