New director announced in ND Nonprofit Executive Education

Published: October 3, 2008 / Author: Carol Newswriting

Marc Hardy recently was named the director of Nonprofit Executive Education at the University of Notre Dame, a newly created position at the Mendoza College of Business. Hardy’s role will include overseeing non-degree executive education programs for executives working in the nonprofit industry.

“In the nonprofit world, trust is what it is all about,” said Hardy. “Given Notre Dame’s very long tradition of integrity, providing this kind of education to nonprofit leaders, who often have good expertise in their service areas but gaps in their business management skills, is part of the University’s mission. I’m very excited to become part of that mission.”

The nonprofit executive education program is a non-degree, certificate program that seeks to provide business leadership and managerial skills in a focused format that allows the individual to attend classes while continuing to work. Mendoza’s nonprofit education program also offers a Master of Nonprofit Administration (MNA) degree in addition to the certificate program.

“Marc brings a wealth of valuable knowledge to this specialty program of the Mendoza College from his own graduate education and teaching experience at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, one of the nation’s premier higher education centers for the nonprofit sector,” said Tom Harvey, MNA program director. “Adding this directorship will give Notre Dame’s commitment to the mission of developing exemplary leaders for the nonprofit sector even more impetus than it was able to have only with a tailored graduate business degree.”

Formerly, Hardy was the associate director for Butler University’s Institute for Research and Scholarship. He also has taught courses in nonprofit leadership and management at Indiana University, Indianapolis and Butler University.

Hardy has led several nonprofit organizations and is the co-author of two books, “Only the Best on Customer Service,” and “Only the Best on Leadership,” as well as several articles on management and leadership. He has served as a board member of several nonprofit organizations, including a term as president of the National Speakers Association of Indiana and the Indiana Theatre Association.
