Notre Dame to host Global Compact conference

The University of Notre Dame will host a major conference March 20-22 focusing on an organized effort to help disadvantaged people worldwide.

The conference, titled “The U.N. Millennium Development Goals: The Global Compact and the Common Good,” will bring together academic scholars, company executives, government officials and United Nations representatives.

The conference is free and open to the public, although there is a fee for meals. It is free to Notre Dame students and faculty. For registration information, visit: http://business.nd.edu/globalcompact.

In 2000, the United Nations estimated that more than a billion people worldwide lived in extreme poverty, often resulting in starvation, disease and death. World leaders created “eight goals for humanity” to be accomplished by 2015 – known as the Millennium Development Goals, a concerted effort to help the least advantaged people.

The conference keynote speaker will be Georg Kell, executive director of the U.N. Global Compact office in New York. See the website for a complete schedule and list of speakers.

The conference is part of Notre Dame Forum, a yearlong series of events focusing on the global marketplace and the common good.
