James Biddick sits within the Meruelo Family Center for Career Development as the Student-Athlete Career Development Program Manager and oversees the student-athlete population in terms of all things career, as well as any student interested in pursuing opportunities within the sports industry. James teaches the Introduction to Sport Management course.
Prior to joining Notre Dame, James has held a variety of roles within the sporting landscape. Firstly, as a student-athlete at Lincoln University (New Zealand) where he completed a Bachelor of Social Science, and then as an athlete representing his region in cricket and country for field hockey in various age-group teams. He also coached at a national and international level for field hockey, as well as an overseas professional in England. On the business-side of sport he has worked in a sporting retail store, through Canterbury Rugby as a rugby administrator, and as an Executive Board Member & Chair of the Competitions Committee for Auckland Hockey. In 2009, he completed his law degree (with honors) from the University of Canterbury and worked as an attorney for New Zealand's leading commercial firm, Russell McVeagh (the official law firm of the 2011 Rugby World Cup) in their civil litigation and employment teams; and then with Sinclair Black, a smaller boutique firm specializing in entertainment/media/sport law.
James arrived in the US in 2015 to complete the 1-year Master of Sports Administration at Ohio University - the number one postgraduate sports management course in the world - where he was exposed to a comprehensive network and plethora of experiential learning opportunities, including consulting projects for professional teams, leagues, associations and agencies. During this year of study, James was lucky enough to help out as Assistant Coach for the Div 1 Field Hockey program which competes in the MAC. James remained at Ohio University within their College of Business' Career & Student Success Center, and served, among others, both the undergraduate students majoring in Sport Management and the Master of Sports Administration students with their career needs as they looked to enter the sports industry.
Outside of the classroom James is the club advisor for the Notre Dame Club Field Hockey Team and the Sports In Business Club. His favorite sporting teams are the All Blacks, Crusaders, NZ Warriors, the Black Caps, and Southern Sting Districts Hockey Club - "Southern Here We Go". He has an unhealthy obsession with New Zealand's greatest ever Kiwi and sporting hero, Steven Adams.
