H. Fred Mittelstaedt is the KPMG Collegiate Professor of Accountancy at the University of Notre Dame. He was the department chair from 2007 to 2019. His research interests lie in financial reporting and pension and retiree health benefits, and his research has been published in accounting and finance journals. Mittelstaedt has taught courses in financial reporting at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He is a coauthor of Financial Reporting & Analysis (8th Ed.)
Honors and distinctions include the Edmund P. Joyce, C.S.C. Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, the Kaneb Undergraduate Teaching Award and the Executive MBA Outstanding Teacher Award. Mittelstaedt also has given Congressional testimony on retiree health benefits. He previously was a member of the editorial advisory and review board for The Accounting Review.
