Registration is open for the University of Notre Dame’s 2024 Accountability in a Sustainable World Conference on September 25-26. The Center for Accounting Research and Education (CARE) at the Mendoza College of Business organized the two-day virtual conference, which is now in its fourth year.

The event explores the changes that will be necessary to create the accounting framework for sustainability and responsible investing related to climate change. The sessions are free to attend and open to the public; participants must register in advance for the live conference and access to on-demand streaming after the conference.

“The message from the conference will be that a sea-change is occurring in corporate reporting and investing,” said Peter Easton, CARE director and Notre Dame Alumni Professor of Accountancy. “I encourage anyone with an interest in sustainability, responsible investing and the future of our planet and the global economy to register for the conference.”

The 2024 Accountability in a Sustainable World Conference gathers more than 70 industry and academic experts including accountants, finance professionals, law professionals, policymakers, economists, investors, climate scientists and scholars. (See full agenda.)

The sessions will focus on key concerns regarding assurance and a sustainable future: the changing sustainability reporting landscape, the politicization of ESG, the new corporate focus on sustainability, the effects of carbon footprint information on consumer choice and thoughts from a younger generation, among other topics.

Held in collaboration with the Sustainable Investment Forum North America 2024, conference sponsors for the event include global consulting and standards firm AccountAbility, Cambridge Business Publishers and Mendoza College of Business.

Established in 2004, the Center for Accounting Research and Education supports academics worldwide in the creation and dissemination of accounting and investment knowledge through education, timely and thoughtful research and partnering with accounting practice to inform the accounting and investment professionals of tomorrow. For nearly 20 years, CARE has hosted annual conferences to set research agendas for many emerging scholars that address key issues related to accounting education and practice. CARE also publishes the scholarly journal Accountability in a Sustainable World Quarterly, which features thought pieces from conference speakers.
