Notre Dame launches new executive program in Ireland

Ethical leadership – the kind that shapes a company’s culture and has the power to influence the greater community – requires not just business knowledge or a set of rules, but the deep integration of a leader’s spiritual, personal and moral strengths into a holistic framework for growth.

In fall 2017, the University of Notre Dame’s Stayer Center for Executive Education will launch a new opportunity for global business leaders to participate in a development program founded on just such an approach: Executive Integral Leadership (EIL) Ireland.

.

EIL Ireland will take place September 19-22 at the Kylemore Abbey Global Center in County Galway. The certificate program is open to those who currently hold position titles of director or higher. The deadline for application is August 19, 2017.

“Leading in today’s world requires a different kind of leader,” said Paul Slaggert, director of the Stayer Center for Executive Education at Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business. “Notre Dame’s Executive Integral Leadership (EIL) program helps experienced leaders develop their capacity to lead in a complex world that requires being comfortable with ambiguity. An individual’s values provide that solid base to lead in this uncertain environment. EIL helps leaders understand their values and the impact they have on how decisions are made.”

EIL Ireland is modeled after the Stayer Center’s longstanding EIL certificate program, which has enrolled more than 2,000 U.S. corporate directors and executives since its launch in 2002. EIL involves extensive self-evaluation in relation to complex business challenges, using personal coaches and a 360-feedback tool called The Leadership Circle Profile™. Instructor Bob Anderson designed the tool to help leaders understand the relationship between how they habitually think and behave, and how these habits affect their effectiveness.

The four-day EIL Ireland program also will feature unique sessions, such as those focused on the health and wellness aspects of leadership led by Irish sportsman Alan Kerins, who founded the Alan Kerins African Projects to work with children in Africa.

“EIL Ireland is a very holistic and integrated model designed to facilitate leaders to have a greater understanding of themselves,” said Kerins, a chartered physiotherapist and Trinity College Dublin graduate who holds a diploma in child and family support. “The program also will provide leaders with the cutting-edge tools and techniques for optimal performance under pressure. From this level of greater awareness and ability, participants will lead their teams in a far more efficient and effective way.”

Kylemore Abbey is a Benedictine monastery located in the idyllic Connemara region in County Galway, Ireland. The abbey was founded in 1920 as an enclosed monastic order for Benedictine nuns who fled Belgium in World War I.

In May 2015, Notre Dame opened the Notre Dame Global Center at Kylemore in collaboration with the Benedictine Community who run the vibrant Kylemore estate. The Global Centre hosts numerous and diverse programs which include third level courses, retreats, tailored programs and cultural activities. The partnership was fostered by emeritus Notre Dame trustee and Irish businessman Martin Naughton in an effort to advance the spiritual, cultural and educational missions shared by the University and the Benedictine Community in the west of Ireland.

“The opportunity to deliver this unique leadership program at Kylemore Abbey is very exciting,” said Slaggert. “We have the chance to leverage an iconic Irish setting and take advantage of this special location to enhance and deepen the experience of the participants.”

Founded in 1980, the Stayer Center for Executive Education at Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business provides leaders in the executive and management levels with the opportunity to develop and strengthen their leadership abilities and business acumen and skills. The Stayer Center offers non-degree certificate programs as well as degree programs in South Bend and Chicago, which include the Notre Dame Executive MBA, the Master of Science in Business Analytics and the Master of Finance.
