Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Deputy City Attorney Anne-Christine Massullo to a San Francisco Superior Court judgeship today.

She will replace retiring Judge James L. Warren.

Massullo, 47, headed the city attorney’s neighborhood and resident safety division since January. Before that, she was an assistant U.S. attorney since 1989.

“I feel doubly honored this year,” Massullo said. “First to have served San Franciscans through my work with City Attorney Dennis Herrera, and, second, to have the opportunity to continue to serve the public in a new capacity.”

Massullo also worked as an attorney in two different private law firms between 1984 and 1989. She earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Michigan law school and a BBA from the University of Notre Dame.

“This is a wise choice by the governor and a well-deserved honor for A.C.,” Herrera said. “I know I speak for the entire city attorney’s office in congratulating her on her appointment.”
