The University Chair Lecture Series, launched in fall 2023, recognizes the importance of the research contributions of the Mendoza College of Business faculty. The series features Mendoza faculty designated as University chairs – Notre Dame’s highest recognition of the impact of a faculty member’s research.

Jason Colquitt researches in the areas of justice, trust, work meaning, personality and identity. He has published over 50 articles with more than 60,000 (!!!) citations in top academic journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes.
His career includes serving as a past editor-in-chief and associate editor for of the influential Academy of Management Journal. He currently serves on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review and Administrative Science Quarterly.
Colquitt’s prodigious research career has been recognized with the Cummings Scholar Award for early to mid-career achievement, which is sponsored by the Academy of Management’s Organizational Behavior division. He also authored one of the top-selling organizational behavior textbooks, which is now in its eighth edition.
As the founding academic director of the Notre Dame Ph.D. in Management, Colquitt was responsible for shaping a groundbreaking program for the College that has successfully recruited talented candidates who are already contributing to their discipline with published research.

Ahmed Abbasi is the co-director of the Human-centered Analytics Lab (HAL), which seeks to better understand the human condition in the context of digital lives. He also serves as the academic director of the Ph.D. Program in Analytics. His research interests are related to text and predictive analytics, and include subjects such as the ethical use of generative AI. A prolific researcher with more than 9,300 citations, he has published more than 100 articles in journals and conferences, including over 40 articles in top-tier outlets such as MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of Marketing, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, and ACM Transactions on Information Systems.
Abbasi’s research has received over a dozen individual and best paper awards. Recent research themes include analytics for social good, the role of AI in supporting public health, and the use of fair machine learning to better understand the human condition for enhanced decision making and policy outcomes. Ahmed also has generously served the profession in his roles as senior or associate editor for top journals such as INFORMS, ACM, IEEE, and AIS, having authored over 350 editorial reports and guest-edited special issues on various AI-related topics such as the role of the institutional press in the digital age, disaster response management, healthcare analytics, and trustworthy AI.
His work has been funded by more than 15 grants from the National Science Foundation and industry partners such as Microsoft, eBay, Deloitte, and Oracle. Abbasi is a recipient of the IEEE Technical Achievement Award, INFORMS Design Science Award, and IBM Faculty Award. He also served as chair of the INFORMS College on AI.

“My Mendoza Journey: A Memoir”

Mike Crant researches workplace dynamics, focusing primarily on proactive personality and behavior at work. He is one of the creators of the proactive personality scale, the most frequently used measure of proactivity in the organizational literature. With nearly 23,000 citations to his research, he is one of the most highly cited scholars at Mendoza (top 5) and in the upper echelon of researchers at Notre Dame (top 30 among current faculty). His more recent work examines the frequency and impact of proactivity in Asian cultures, including exploring how proactivity helped Chinese hospitals deal with the early days of the COVID-19 crisis.
