Brian Levey is a legal, compliance and ethics executive, educator and speaker. He joined the Mendoza College of Business in 2007 after a twenty year legal career, most notably building corporate compliance and ethics programs after accounting scandals at WorldCom and Fannie Mae. During his time at Mendoza, he has taught the introductory undergraduate Business Law course, as well as several ethics classes in the undergraduate, graduate and executive programs. Levey’s teaching and research interests lie especially at the intersection of business, law, ethics and sports, in particular using sports to encourage students of all ages to think critically about ethical dilemmas. Examples include developing an Ethics in Sports course, now part of the College of Arts & Letters' Sport, Media and Culture minor, as well as teaching the ethics module of the Sports Management Institute’s executive program for athletic administrators. In this same vein, publications like “Oh Say Can You Sit? Colin Kaepernick, Freedom of Speech and the Workplace” and the forthcoming “Clean LIVing? What the Saudi-Backed Golf Tour Can Teach Us About Sports, Business and Life” challenge readers to examine their own core values in connection with ethical decision making.

An award-winning teacher, Levey has also taught Foundations of Ethical Behavior, Managing Organizational Compliance & Ethics, Ethics in Accounting, Ethics in Tax and Fraud on Film. He has served as a faculty fellow for both the Notre Dame Deloitte Center for Ethical Leadership and the Kaneb Center for Teaching and Learning. Levey is also an affiliated faculty member with the College of Arts & Letters' Sheedy Family Program in Economy, Enterprise, and Society.

Prior to joining the university, Levey was Fannie Mae's vice president for ethics. Before that, he was the director of compliance and business ethics with Smiths Group plc, an international engineering company based in the United Kingdom. Previously, Levey was a deputy ethics officer and associate counsel with MCI (formerly WorldCom and now Verizon Business). He has also been in private practice and served as an adjunct professor at George Mason University and The George Washington University. He holds degrees from the University of Notre Dame (B.B.A.), The Catholic University of America (J.D.) and The George Washington University (LL.M.).
