Come to any or all of the events (attendees capped at 65):
9:00 – 9:50 AM Thinking serverless: From business problem to serverless solution
Serverless is more than just using AWS Lambda; it’s about learning to use various services and techniques to solve a problem. How do you approach building a solution with a serverless mindset? In this chalk talk, learn how to tackle a business problem from a customer perspective by breaking down the needs into serverless building blocks that work well together. Learn the power of distributed system design and event-based architecture, and discover how easy it is to turn a flowchart into a model for a serverless application.
10:00 – 10:50 AM Leveraging serverless in full-stack development
Using serverless reduces time spent managing infrastructure and provides developers more time to focus on code. This session covers tooling, frameworks, and architectural patterns focused on building a web application from front to back. Along the way, we will discuss pitfalls and best practices to help you get a jump start on developing without servers.
11:00 – 11:50 AM Building a serverless application on AWS for beginners
What exactly is serverless? AWS serverless technologies allow developers to run code, manage data, and integrate applications without managing any servers. In practice, this means you can learn and build serverless applications quickly. In this coding session, I open the IDE and show you how to build a serverless application. I demonstrate creating a simple, data-driven backend designed to scale on demand. I also show how to host a client with serverless that connects to the backend. Along the way, I discuss best practices for local development and security. At the end of this session, you will be ready to start building your applications using a serverless approach
12:00 – 12:50 PM Lunch
1:00 – 5:00 Workshop: Build a serverless web app for a theme park
Learn how to build a complete serverless web application for a popular theme park called Innovator Island. The theme park is rolling out a web app that provides thousands of visitors with wait times, photo opportunities, notification alerts, and language translation for visitors who need it. In this workshop, get hands-on experience building a scalable serverless application with a single-page application (SPA) front-end that delivers a feature-rich user experience.
