Combine your already solid technical competence with the interpersonal and leadership skills you need to become an effective manager.

With the increasing complexity and uncertainty in the engineering industry, now’s the time to bring your career to the next level. This program presents an exciting and unique development opportunity for technical professionals who are ready for, or who have already undertaken, higher levels of responsibility. You do not need to be an engineer to gain valuable takeaways from participating in this program.

During the 2 1/2-day program, you’ll be challenged to assess your own leadership styles, understand how to motivate and manage employees and develop the interpersonal skills needed to help ensure your successful transition into a leadership role.

Ideal candidates are technical professionals who have managerial or leadership responsibilities, such as team leaders, senior engineers, or engineering managers, as well as any managers who do not have strong technical backgrounds but who now find themselves leading people with technical training and responsibilities.

Elevate Your Career

Notre Dame’s Engineering Leadership program is more than just an on-campus short course. Many participants find that they also develop a wider network of other technical team leaders.

Here is what you can expect:

One of the most critical career transitions for engineers and technical professionals is the move from individual contributor to manager and leader. Whether that is in a formal management role or as a project leader, strong interpersonal and leadership skills can determine future opportunities.

This program presents a professional development opportunity for technical professionals who are either preparing for this transition or have already begun to move into a leadership role.

Meeting other engineers and technical team leaders who can become a part of your network is one of the valuable takeaways that participants list about the program on a frequent basis.

What You’ll Learn

Designed specifically for engineers seeking to improve their management and leadership skills and capabilities, this hands-on program prepares you to face the many leadership challenges, such as constant change, incomplete information required for decision making, increasingly competitive markets, shortened lead times, and a tempo driven by technology.

During the 2 1/2-day program, you’ll focus on assessing your style and developing both individual and organizational skills and abilities to become an effective leader and manager.

Here are the skills you will gain:

  • Awareness and perspective of the interpersonal issues related to engineering leadership
  • Personal development that has direct and important bottom-line results
  • Skills for effectively managing and leading people
  • Interpersonal skills and awareness that will improve performance — both your own and that of your employees

The program is approved to award 15 PDH (Professional Development Hours) for Professional Engineers (P.E.) toward their continuing education requirement.
