Kristen Collett-Schmitt is a leader and award-winning Teaching Professor at the University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business. Holding a Ph.D. and Masters in Economics from North Carolina State University and a B.A. from Bellarmine University, she brings economics to life for her undergraduate and graduate students. Her innovative teaching methods, which emphasize real-world applications, have earned her numerous awards, including being named a Top 40 Undergraduate Business Professor by Poets & Quants. Her scholarly work explores economics education, inclusive pedagogy, and financial literacy, all aimed at inspiring genuine student interest.
Dr. Collett-Schmitt's commitment to representation in business, as well as access to education and opportunity, extends far beyond her lectures. She founded Mendoza's Grow the Good in Business Case Competition and pioneered a professional development program addressing the gender gap in management promotions. She played a key role in establishing the Notre Dame Chapter for MoneyThink, a student initiative that mentors high schoolers in financial literacy. Moreover, she is dedicated to "Wishes for Preemies," her family’s non-profit, provides essential support for hospitalized premature infants.
In 2024, Dr. Collett-Schmitt was appointed Associate Dean for Undergraduate and Specialized Master’s Programs. Her prior leadership roles include Associate Dean for Innovation and Inclusion, Associate Dean for Specialized Master's Programs, and Director of Special Projects, overseeing college accreditation.
