Alfonso Pedraza-Martinez

Alfonso Pedraza-Martinez, PhD (INSEAD, 2011), is the founding director of HOPE - Humanitarian Operations Lab and the academic director of Business on the Frontlines at the University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business. He teaches humanitarian operations management to PhD students and social-impact consulting to MBA students. He also enjoys advising on undergraduate students’ research. Alfonso's pioneering research on social good has influenced humanitarian and faith-based relief organizations, as well as social enterprises. He is the inaugural Department Editor for Social Impact at the Journal of Operations Management (JOM), the highest-impact journal in operations management in 2024 and 2025. He is a founding officer and former president of the College of Humanitarian Operations and Crisis Management within the Production and Operations Management Society. Alfonso received the 2022 Luk Van Wassenhove Career Award from the European Working Group on Humanitarian Operations. Before joining Notre Dame, Professor Pedraza-Martinez was a faculty member at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, where he served as the Department Chair of Operations and Decision Technologies, overseeing 61 faculty members during 2021-22. His academic career began at Universidad de los Andes in Colombia, where he taught optimization and simulation and co-created an MBA course on Data Mining with SAS Institute.
