Jim Leady enjoys teaching finance and economics courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs.

He currently serves as the assistant chair and director of undergraduate studies of the Finance Department. He served as associate dean for undergraduate education in Mendoza from 2019-2022 and as assistant chair of the Finance Department from 2016-2019. Leady also serves as the Chief Reader for the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) Microeconomics program and serves on the AP Microeconomics Test Development Committee. He previously served as Co-Chair of the Development Committee from 2018-2021.

Prior to joining Mendoza in 2006, Leady taught at Centre College in Danville, KY and at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, MI. He earned a PhD in Economics at the University of Michigan as well as a Certificate of Graduate Studies in Complex Systems. He graduated with a BS in Economics from West Point.

Leady retired from the US Army in 2019. His 20-year career included an active duty assignment as a Ranger-qualified combat engineer in the 25th Light Infantry Division and multiple assignments as a logistician and instructor in the US Army Reserve. He served in two operational deployments (Iraq and Kuwait) and four humanitarian deployments (Kauai, the Philippines, Guatemala, and El Salvador). He is married and has two adult children.
