Laura (Hirschfeld) Hollis, a native of Champaign, Illinois, received her bachelor’s degree in English and her law degree from the University of Notre Dame. She holds a faculty appointment in the Mendoza College of Business, where she teaches courses in business law and entrepreneurship. Her expertise is in entrepreneurship, economic development, and public policy.

Prior to joining the faculty, Professor Hollis was Director of the Gigot Center for Entrepreneurship at Notre Dame. She held joint appointments in Engineering and Business at the University of Illinois from 2000 – 2010. She was a tenured professor of law at the University of Detroit Mercy, and a visiting professor of law at Michigan State University.

In addition to her legal publications, Professor Hollis has been a freelance political writer for almost 30 years, and a nationally syndicated columnist with Creators Syndicate since 2014.

She is married to Jess Hollis, a radio producer and on-air personality. They have two children, Alistair and Celeste.
