Finance Minor

The Finance Minors equip students with in-demand finance skills through two tailored pathways for Mendoza and non-Mendoza students. With a focus on financial markets, financial analysis, investment analysis, and valuation, the minor strengthens career readiness across a wide range of industries while complementing each student’s primary area of study.

What You’ll Learn

The 15-credit minor is open to Mendoza students graduating in the class of 2026 or later.

The Finance Minor provides a broad range of students with the opportunity to build their finance-related skills. In particular, the minor will provide skill development related to financial markets, financial analysis, investment analysis, and valuation, among other areas, and will help to better prepare students for a wide range of business careers.

Required Courses

In addition to the Mendoza business core, students pursuing the finance minor must complete the three following courses (9 credits).

  • FIN 30400 Corporate Finance (3 Credits)
  • FIN 30600 Investment Theory (3 Credits)
  • ACCT 20200 Accounting Analysis for Planning and Control (3 Credits) or ACCT 30100 Corporate Financial Reporting (3 Credits)*

*FIN 30400 and FIN 30600 count towards the Mendoza broadening course requirement for all non-Finance majors. ACCT 20200 also counts toward the Mendoza broadening course requirement for non-Accountancy majors, while ACCT 30100 may be a required prerequisite for some finance electives. For Accountancy majors, ACCT 20200 double-counts toward both the Accountancy major and the Finance minor.

As is the  case for a finance major, all students pursuing a finance minor must earn a grade of C or better in FIN 20150.

Elective Courses

Students must complete 6 credits in any of the 40000-level finance electives. Students in the minor have the same registration priority as finance majors for most electives, though a few courses may be restricted to majors only (check NOVO for up-to-date restrictions). Example elective courses include the following (this may not be a complete list):
