The WikiLeaks scandal reminds governments, businesses and organizations, it just takes one person to violate the trust of your company.

“No organization is immune,” says John D’Arcy, IT Management Associate Professor at Notre Dame. “We’re talking about the human element. We’re talking about human beings.”

D’Arcy says three-quarters of all security breaches are the result of people either making mistakes or intentionally trying to sabotage their companies or organizations. That leaves only a quarter of the problems to blame on equipment failure.

“I think it speaks to the value of hiring the right people in your organization with ethical values,” D’Arcy says.
