Wounded Warrior Nevins to share his story during talk at Notre Dame

U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Dan Nevins will share his personal
story of rehabilitation and the mission of the awareness-raising group the Wounded Warrior Project during a talk at the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business at 6:30 p.m. on March 3.

Nevins joined Wounded Warrior Project in an official
capacity in March 2009 as the director of Warriors Speak, a prestigious group
of wounded warriors and caregivers who have been selected to share their
personal, inspirational stories of courage and integrity with the public.

The talk, which is free and open to the public, will take
place in the Giovanini Commons on the lower level of Mendoza.

Nevins, an infantry squad leader, suffered catastrophic
injuries while serving in Iraq when an improvised explosive device (IED)
detonated beneath his vehicle in 2004. The damage included a traumatic brain
injury (TBI), the amputation of his left leg below the knee, and severe damage
to his right leg that led to eventual amputation as well.

His recovery involved more than 30 surgeries and multiple,
months-long stays at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where he encountered Wounded
Warrior Project, a national organization dedicated to raising awareness and
enlisting the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members. Nevins credits
the organization for his successful rehabilitation
and positive attitude, and for inspiring his
dedication to helping fellow servicemen and women. In 2008, the
organization awarded Nevins its highest honor, the George C. Lang Award for
Courage.
