Four MBA students at the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business recently competed in the University of North Carolina Kenan Flagler Business School 2005 Marketing Case Challenge. Participants from Notre Dame were Jamin Hemenway, Nicolas Picard, and Mariya Todorova, (all MBA ’06) and Rebecca Tower (MBA ’05).
The unique format of the Kenan Flagler competition is that students from individual schools are combined with students from other universities to form teams.
This year’s case challenge was sponsored by John Deere and centered on developing a marketing strategy for their struggling X-series riding lawnmower brand. Students were given approximately 6 hours to complete the case, with 15 minutes allotted for a question and answer session with a team of judges comprised of current John Deere managers in the lawn and garden division.
Winning team members – Jamin Hemenway, Mendoza College of Business, Sophia Yang, Harvard, Matt Hill, UCLA, Steven Fransblow, Sloan Business School, and Pamela Scovill, Kenan Flagler – took home a grand prize of $2500 and a John Deere hat.
