Metavize, Inc., an emerging leader in next generation integrated gateway security for small to medium-sized businesses, today announced Brian R. Dunn as President and Chief Executive Officer.

Dunn served the last decade in various executive positions at Macrovision Corporation, most recently as Executive Vice President, Corporate Development and Chief Strategy Officer, where he led the diversification of the company from video copy protection into software and audio security, digital rights management and intellectual property licensing. Dunn also served as Senior Vice President for the Consumer Software Copy Protection group, a new interactive software security division at Macrovision. Prior to Macrovision, Dunn was Vice President of Operations, Corporate Counsel and Chief Financial Officer at Phase 2 Automation and held various financial management positions at Amdahl Corporation and Price Waterhouse Coopers. He also practiced law at Fenwick and West LLP.

Dunn earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame and a J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the California Bar.

“Brian has the ideal combination of talent, track record and vision to lead Metavize as it enters a rapid growth and development phase. His entrepreneurial success and large enterprise management experience are important assets to the company, and we are fortunate to be working with him,” said Dirk Morris, founder and Vice President of Business Development at Metavize.

“My experience dealing with consumer software security and electronic software distribution matches the innovative and effective way Metavize plans to deliver new security applications to the SMB market as threats arise,” said Dunn. “Existing network security point solutions are not truly upgradeable and are too expensive for small business users facing today’s blended threats. Metavize’s patent-pending network security technologies significantly simplify network security without sacrificing effectiveness.”

Dunn’s appointment follows the completion of a $750,000 seed financing. The funding will be used to expand sales and operations, and build the executive staff of the company. Metavize began shipping the EdgeGuard 250 to customers in March.
