New business research database now available to ND alums

University of Notre Dame alumni now can access in-depth
company and industry data through a new online resource provided through the
co-sponsorship of the Notre Dame Alumni Association, Mendoza College of
Business and the Hesburgh Libraries.
Business Insights:
Essentials is a dynamic database
of in-depth company and industry profiles, brand information, rankings, company
histories, investment reports and related news and journal articles—all
searchable by company name, ticker symbol, industry code or description,
geographic location or personal name.
ND alums can
access Business
Insights: Essentials by logging in through myNotreDame, the
Alumni Association’s secure online community. Registration is required to use myNotreDame.
“We recognize that our alums often are faced with making
decisions or solving problems, both in their personal and professional lives,
where having a source of accurate company data would be extremely helpful,”
said Elizabeth “Dolly” Duffy, executive director of the Notre Dame Alumni Association. “We’re pleased to add Business Insights: Essentials to the existing resources made
available to ND alums.”
Business Insights:
Essentials is a product of Gale Cengage Learning, a leading publisher of research and
reference resources for libraries, schools and businesses. The database allows users to:

investment opportunities

Research
businesses and find parent-subsidiary relationships

Explore market
and industry information, SWOT reports, investment reports and business
associations
·
Analyze and
compare financial and statistical data with interactive charting tools
·
Study product and
brand information
·
Compare companies
within an industry
For example, a user can search for
a particular industry, such as aerospace or Internet publishing. Business
Insights: Essentials returns an overview that includes an industry snapshot, an
organization and structure outline, and links to related content including rankings,
market research and recent news.
The site also offers features such as an extensive business
glossary, Readspeaker (text-to-speech functionality), translation tools for the
user interface and article-level translations, citation tools, and interactive
charting with the ability to manipulate statistical data and customize charts.

NBC Learn, the education arm of NBC
News, makes the global resources of NBC News and the historic film and video
archive available to teachers, students, schools and universities. The website
has digitized stories from the NBC
News archives—one of the largest news archives in the world, dating
back to the 1920s. In addition, collections are updated with current events
every day, Monday through Friday, with stories from such celebrated programs as
NBC Nightly News,

Meet the Press,

features 26 subject areas from economics to environmental sciences.
RefWorks, a Web-based
bibliographic management tool that enables a user to format footnotes and
bibliographies and store references in a personal database online. The tool is
useful for organizing personal readings, including books, articles and reports.
CareerShift, an integrated job hunting
tools accessible from any Web browser. Users can search and store job listings
and contact information. The tool serves as a repository for organizing and
managing job-search activities.
