Notre Dame Executive Education presents annual awards

The Executive Education Department in the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame honored faculty, alumni and corporate partners for their contributions recognizing excellence in innovation, ethical commitment and values-based leadership in keeping with the Notre Dame mission.
“We are delighted to recognize those individuals and organizations who give the best of themselves to Notre Dame,” said Sharon Keane, director of Executive Education. “They contribute to our success by generously sharing their expertise and doing so with a collaborative spirit.
Presented annually since 2001, the awards were given at the Executive Education awards banquet held May 19 at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center on the Notre Dame campus.
The 2010 Notre Dame Executive Education awards are as follows:
- Alan L. Nelson, adjunct instructor and partner of communication consultancy company CRA, was awarded the Arnie Ludwig Outstanding Teacher Award. The honor goes to a faculty member chosen by Executive MBA students in the South Bend program and is named for a former Executive Education director.
- Phillip Raskin, adjunct instructor and retired chief marketing officer for Morgan Stanley, received the Leo Burke Outstanding Teacher Award for the Chicago Executive MBA Program. Executive MBA students in the Chicago program choose the winner of this award, which is named for a former Executive Education director.
- Gar Trusley, adjunct instructor and president of Columbus, Ohio-based consulting firm Gar Trusley and Associates, won the Inspiring Educator Award – Executive Programs. The award goes to an instructor or faculty member within Notre Dame’s non-degree programs who has the highest course evaluation scores.
- Hoffman York, a full-service communications agency with offices in Milwaukee and Chicago, received the Partner in Innovation Award. The award recognizes a strategic business partner to Executive Education who demonstrates innovation and creativity. Hoffman York has assisted with Executive Education’s marketing and communication efforts for the past four years.
- Leo Burke, former associate dean and director of Notre Dame Executive Education, was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award. The award recognizes an alumna or alumnus for demonstrating creativity in addressing business-related issues and for generosity with ideas, time and other resources. Burke, who stepped down as director in 2007, was recognized for his values-based leadership. Among his accomplishments, he was recognized for establishing the Chicago-based EMBA program and the signature Executive Integral Leadership program that has enrolled approximately 1,400 executives since its inception in 2002. Burke is currently serving as director of Integral Leadership, which consists of a portfolio of three distinct, values-based leadership programs.
- General Electric received the Outstanding Leadership in Executive Education – Degree Program. The award recognizes exemplary corporate leadership in executive education as well as a commitment to values-based decision making, among other criteria.
- Pace Global Energy Services, led by Tim Sutherland, chairman and CEO of the Washington, D.C.-based consultancy firm , won the Outstanding Leadership in Executive Education – Executive Program. The award also recognizes exemplary corporate leadership in executive education as well as a commitment to values-based leadership, in addition to other factors.
Founded in 1980, Notre Dame Executive Education provides leaders in the executive and management ranks the opportunity to develop and strengthen their leadership abilities and business acumen skills through both degree and non-degree programs. In keeping with the Notre Dame mission, the program emphasizes values-based leadership in addition to academic rigor.
