Patrick Perrella, the director of Notre Dame MBA Career
Development at the Mendoza College of Business, has been named as the recipient
of the 2013 Rev. Michael J. Shea Person of the Year Award by the Notre Dame
Club of New York. Perrella was chosen for this year’s award due to his
leadership as a past president of NDNY and continued involvement in the
13,000-member NY/CT/NJ regional club network, said current NDNY President Dyan
Rohol (ND ’96).
Established in 1943, the Shea award honors the Rev.
Michael J. Shea, who founded the New York Club in 1916 and is credited with
writing the music to the Notre Dame Victory March. The annual award is conferred on an alumnus
or alumna (living or deceased) who has exhibited outstanding leadership in the
New York community.
Born in Manhattan, Perrella is a 1990 Bachelor of
Architecture graduate from Notre Dame. After
receiving his MBA from the Kelley School of Business in 1996, he began a
12-year international banking career with Citi.
After moving back to New York from Europe in 2001, he began organizing
numerous activities and events on behalf of the club that strengthened the
University’s recruiting efforts in the New York/New Jersey area, as well as
helped to increase the number of applications to Notre Dame. Perrella also served
as treasurer (2002) and club president (2003-2006) before becoming a regional
alumni board representative.
In 2007, Perrella returned to the University to work in
Notre Dame MBA Career Development, where he continued to build relationships
with New York area employers and increased the successful placement of ND
students. He currently is working on a detailed history of the club in
anticipation of the 100th Anniversary of its founding in 2016.
Perrella will receive the Shea Award on Thursday, Feb. 7,
2013 during the club’s Universal Notre Dame Night at the Union League Club in
New York City.
The event – NDNY’s primary scholarship fundraising event – features
a silent auction. Keynote speaker is James “Jimmy” Dunne III (ND ’78),
senior managing principal of Sandler O’Neill + Partners and a member of the
Notre Dame Board of Trustees. Also participating as masters of ceremony are Anne Thompson (ND ’79), NBC chief environmental affairs
correspondent and University trustee, and CNBC news reporter Mary Thompson (ND ’85).
Details about NDNY’s Universal Notre Dame Night, including tickets
and sponsorship options, can be found on the Notre Dame Club of New York’s website or by
contacting Nicole Lawrence (ND ’96) at ndny+UND@alumni.nd.edu.
